Live. Life. Here & Now.

Otto F. Gatternigg teaching at a whiteboard

To live in this moment starts with our breath – It is the core sign of being alive. Shortly after birth, we started breathing right automatically. Later in life, it became flat, like on autopilot, breathing mode.

For many of us, it’s increasingly difficult to relax, to let go. To find inner peace in & for ourselves.

Places of silence have become rare. Churches & monasteries are islands of inner calm, are cut-off sanctuaries from the hectic & noisy world around us. We feel this especially in metropolitan cities.

A large number of people face anxiety, are afraid of silence, and might say: "It’s spooky quiet." Besides, there’s always "a phone in action", or peeping somewhere; ringtones are causing distractions.

Did we become stand-by humans? Being available around the clock, even at night or during holidays? Technology has moved boldly to the center of our lives.

Our brains are restlessly jumping springbok-like from one thought to another. It’s increasingly becoming difficult to find silence & peace; to throw an inner anchor of calm.

We’re living in overwhelming times, non-stop avalanched by technology & information. How often do we catch ourselves being stressed out? Not gaining "our personal freedom", the basic human right to have more time and quality of life, though?

Practicing meditation guides one in easy ways to find peace of mind & inner calm. It increases our focus, is free & can be done almost everywhere; supporting us in letting go, and strengthening the immune system.

Meditation is not the privilege of monks only! CEOs, businessmen, entrepreneurs, & privateers, as well as exhausted employees- humans like you & me are becoming increasingly aware of the benefits meditation provides.

One of the most meaningful achievements in my life has been teaching kids, students, & adults how to meditate. When working as an educator in Myanmar, I engaged my students in this ancient practice.

Some of them suffered from hyperactivity, were permanently fidgety & unfocused in their body language & during lessons. Others were often late & tended to forget crucial learning items at home.

My extracurricular classes, two days a week, were fully booked. With some practice, students became calmer, more relaxed, and anchored inside themselves. Anxieties & tensions were fading while their focus wonderfully increased. Better exam results proved we’re on the right track.

Parents happily hugged me, saying that since their children attend my meditation sessions, they behave more respectfully & balanced. Even keeping their rooms clean & tidy without being reminded.

Aggression & competition switched to inspiring, creative Groupwork! My students showed more appreciation, empathy, love, & respect towards their families.

Watching their smiles during meditation is a personal highlight in my life.
